What Is A Reverse Advent Calendar? | #FOODBANKADVENT

A report released by the trussell trust reveals figures that one in fifty homes in the UK have used a food bank in 2018/19.

"In the last five years, food banks in the trussell trust network have seen a 73% increase in the number of food parcels provided to people in crisis"

For many families, this time of the year comes with lots of added financial pressures and a reverse advent calendar is a great way to show support within your local community.

What Is A Reverse Advent Calendar?

A traditional advent calendar starts on the 1st of December and runs until Christmas eve, and you receive chocolate or a treat on each day. The reverse advent calendar starts anytime in November, and for 24 days you add a food item to donate.

The sooner you start the better as food banks need time to sort through donations and prepare food parcels for collection in December.

What Should I Include In My Reverse Advent Calendar?

The best way to find out which items your local food bank needs is to contact them directly.

As an example these were items on the list at my local food bank:

Tinned /Jar Food

Dried Food

Other Food

Where Do I Find A Food Bank?

The trussell Trust has 1200 food banks across the country and you can find your local one here.

Alternatively, a google search will help you find a local charity in need of donations.

If you're local to me in Margate I've included some details at the end of this post on local food banks, homeless charities, and support available.

Please join the UK money bloggers campaign #FoodBankAdvent and share your pictures on social media using the hashtag.
