Make money with Influencer Marketing on TikTok

I’m in my late 30’s so I’m not the target demographic for this app, but we’re heading into another lockdown in England so it’s the perfect time for me to grow my account, and explore ways to make money with influencer marketing on TikTok.

I’ve enjoyed working with brands on Instagram since 2017, but the industry is forever changing at a fast pace. With over 2 Billion downloads, over 300 million in Quarter 1 of 2020 (the best of any app to date), it’s a great time to use TikTok to grow your brand and earn from influencer marketing.  

What is TikTok?

TikTok is a short form video-sharing app.

It is free to download, and allows users to create short video snippets easily from their phone, and will often have a popular soundtrack or a viral trend. Popular video styles include dancing, lip-sync, singing, life hacks, and even cleaning! 

How can I use TikTok to earn from Influencer Marketing?

TikTok has evolved from the early days of teens lip-syncing to their favourite artist and is a now a hub of creativity. With such growth, it’s created an opportunity for influencers to cash in, and brands are using the platform with great success. 

The app is hugely competitive for content creators. The key to success is looking for an original angle for your content and putting a new twist on popular trends. Something Shayy Irving has achieved with her humorous and relatable take on everyday life that she shares in snippets on the app.  

TikTok has a growth rate that is considerably higher than Instagram, but it also has nowhere near the volume of influencers creating ads. So it’s a prime time to tap into the audience! The TikTok algorithm loves new and unique content, so instead of dance and lip-sync think of a way to promote yourself in a fun and creative way. 

People often underestimate the work that is involved and see it as an easy way to make money. Creating content is a long process of planning, using props, filming and editing. Even for those that are living the dream creative lifestyle in one of the on-trend “content houses” the level of work behind the scenes can feel unappreciated at times. 

Once you’ve found your niche and decided your target audience, you will need to post consistently to build a following on the app, and the content needs to be high quality if you want to stand out and work with brands. 

Hashtags on TikTok

Create hashtags of your own that will make your content easily searchable and create a community for your followers, and include relevant trending hashtags to help your content appear on the #foryou page. 

It is possible to use too many hashtags and confuse the algorithm, so stick to ones that will help your target audience search for your videos and don’t use unrelated hashtags just because they are trending.

Should I switch to a TikTok Pro account?

As your following increases, you’ll want to provide statistics and a media pack to brands you’re working with. A TikTok Pro account will provide you with the analytics.

Engage with your audience

A great way to increase your following on Tiktok is by engaging with your fans, replying to comments and creating a community for your followers. 

In recent years because of the increase in influencers purchasing ‘followers & likes’ brands are looking more at engagement levels above follower numbers, building an authentic following is key to a successful relationship with brands.
